Было бы очень желательно, чтобы пояснение дал Обама сам. Но то, что он одним лавашиком накормил много миллионов людей, это поражает. Ведь не придерешься, если он сам не захочет раскрыться.

Честно, стало как-то не по себе после такого виртуозного виража. Не потому что непонятно по прежнему, а просто, что при этом темпе перемен могут оставить нас при наших же желаниях, соглашаясь с нами, но в итоге с сосулькой в руке...

Letter to the President-sorry it's not a joke

Dear Friends,

As many of you may know, on April 24 Armenians around the world commemorated their ancestors’ Genocide that took place in 1915. As you can imagine, being Armenian myself, I have received numerous emails and articles of various nature. Some express extreme anger, others, disappointment and sorrow. The one that I chose to share with you, my Armenian and non-Armenian friends, is written by a friend from Boston Lisa Sedrakian. It truly touched me!

What I’d like to add to what Lisa has to say is that it stirs my stomach every time I hear from some Turkish officials as well as others who have not found courage to accept The Armenian Genocide, that “The Armenian people should move on…”. This kind of statement could not be more baseless, since Armenians have moved on! We’ve given the world Migoyan, Victor Hambartzumian, William Saroyan, Martiros Saryan, Arshile Gorky, Cher, Charles Aznavour, just a few to name. In the music field, legendary Komitas, Khachaturian, violin instructor at the Juilliard School Ivan Galamian (teacher of Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman and many others), violinists Ani and Ida Kavafian, etc. Armenian Doctors, Lawyers, Politicians and Scientists have and will always bring their expertise to the world in a very profound and progressive way.

I come from the only small part of the world that is left of what was Armenia . I grew up watching Mount Ararat, (historically in Armenia , currently in Turkey ) a true inspiration for many Armenian Artists. It is as big and visible as our pain and history, and as beautiful as our culture! I only remember my grandmother telling us how some of her Turkish friends helped her brother hide in their chimney, so he wouldn’t be taken to be killed with the rest of 1.5 million. That story always puts a sad smile on my face. But it also gives me hope, since I know there is decency among Turkish people. I happen to have friends, very good friends who are Turkish. I also bring my two children to places where they take instruction by professionals who are Turkish. I’ve come to these Turkish people for what they are and liked them for what they are. Have I moved on……?

I believe that wounds resulting from intentional hurts can only be heeled by those who have caused them. As a parent, I have learned that if I said or did something that in any ways hurt my children’s feelings, there is a relief I see in their faces when I apologize, and I will continue doing so, until I achieve the mastery of parenting when my apologies will no longer be needed. This is the way I believe “moving on” should be. NOT THROUGH BANALITY OF DENIAL!

Here is what Lisa wrote to President Obama. Thank you, Lisa. You really moved me, or should I say sat me down from being swamped from so many things to do. Like Komitas said: “We, the survivors, should live two lives, one for ourselves, one for those who died, to liven their memories and their dreams”.

Here's what I wrote to him today . . .

Dear President Obama,

I am not impressed that someone taught you the words "Medz Yeghern." What happened to the Armenians may have been a "Great Calamity," but more than that, it was a crime -- the crime of GENOCIDE. I am sad and disappointed that you cannot tell the truth about the GENOCIDE that took place in 1915. It is unfortunate that you cannot use the word that was created by Raphael Lemkin to describe the crime that was perpetrated against the Armenians by the Turks.

Three of my four grandparents were orphans because of the GENOCIDE. Being an African-American, even though your own ancestors may or may not have been direct victims of slavery (please excuse my ignorance of your particular situation), you are aware of how the feeling of having been victimized by slavery has affected many generations of Black Americans. These types of wounds do not heal easily and certainly not without much care and attention. The wounds of GENOCIDE survivors and their descendants will not heal without the proper care. PLEASE DO NOT POUR SALT ON OUR WOUNDS!! I will not forget what my ancestors went through, my children will not forget what happened, and I guarantee that their children, too, will be made aware of the GENOCIDE that took place. There will be no healing of these wounds if we continue to pussyfoot around the truth. IT WAS A GENOCIDE AND NOTHING ELSE.

I am sad that the President of the most powerful country of the world cannot speak the truth. Are you afraid?? Of Turkey ?? Yes, so am I. I am afraid that they will do it again, having gotten away with it once before. They're still "doing it" to the Kurds. I am afraid that Turkey will bully its way around and get what it wants. Since when do we let other bully us? Now's as good a time as any, I suppose.

Nobody let Germany off the hook so easily. I bet the Germans wish they stuck with denial, too. They could have saved millions in reparations. But no, Germany had the dignity to raise its head and admit what it did and pay for it. Germany had the guts and the principle to do the right thing, and that is what Turkey must do. Turkey does not deserve to be acknowledged or dealt with in world politics unless it acts in a dignified manner. TELL THE TRUTH, TURKEY !

You must think I am just an emotional, militant, crazy woman. Sorry to disappoint you, but I am just a feeling human being, and right now I feel taken advantage of. I feel victimized again, like every year, when the day comes and "the word" is not used. I feel like my hopes have been slashed to pieces. I feel that you have not lived up to your potential and, thus, have prevented me from living up to mine. I am emotional, thinking of my grandparents' happy childhoods in Ourfa, Konya , Van and Khnous before they were orphaned or driven out. Millions dead, raped, hanged, shot, driven mad, married off to families of a different religion. Millions dying of thirst, hunger, disease. Millions gone from their homelands. All part of a plan to Turkify Turkey . All documented and proven by historians. This is the type of behavior we want to reward and encourage by conspiring with the criminals and not mentioning "the word."

Well, go ahead, then -- don't say it. Let that eat away at you, Mr. President. I mean no disrespect, sir. I make mistakes, too. And I know how it feels after I've made a mistake. I feel sick to my stomach. I wish I could hit the rewind button, and do it again -- the right way. But, usually the damage is done, and that's when it eats away at me. I'm lucky that my mistakes don't affect so many innocent people. Millions of Armenians worldwide were hanging on your every word, waiting for the satisfaction of having placed our hopes in the right place. Millions and millions of sons, daughters, granddaughters, grandsons, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons, etc., of those killed and driven from their homes.

That's politics for you. Might makes right, the victors write the history. All those addages are so true. Things will not change. You may want them to, but you cannot do it. Even, you, Mr. President, cannot change this?

I am very sad, very disappointed, heartbroken, in fact. My ancestors walked for days in the hot sun, with no water to drink, no food to eat, left to die, they were robbed, raped, and murdered, and here I am powerless to change your mind, because the truth does not matter -- only power does.

Mr. President, you have more power than you think. You can say the word "GENOCIDE." You can demand that the Turks do the right thing. YES, YOU CAN. SI, SE PUEDE. You said it yourself so many times. I believed you, or I wanted to believe you. Now, it's your turn to believe.

Please, Mr. President, hold true to your campaign promise, because it is the right thing to do, because it will lead us to a better world for everyone.

Please, Mr. President, restore my faith that one person can make a difference.

И разве геноцид — это не трагедия?

Что именно обозначил?

Т.е. давление на администрацию Обамы со стороны многих сторон не позволило ему произнести слова «геноцид»? А при инициировании принятия резолюции в Конгрессе давление исчезнет?

Неужели к этому моменту Армения с Турцией поменяются ролями: Армения станет союзником США, а Турция нет?

Кстати, Вы так и не ответили на вопрос:

Если американская элита решила принять резолюции с осуждением геноцида армян, то зачем американцы форсировали армяно-турецкий процесс и добились совместного заявления МИД Армении и Турции аккурат перед 24 апреля?

Тут ведь не ответишь в двух словах Алексей .Тут переплелись интересы  большой геополитики .И начинаются они с 1985 года когда шла борьба в Политбюро ЦК КПСС ,ну и результат этой борьбы 1991 году СССР не стало .

Послу был высказан протест в связи с выступлением президента США Барака Обамы 24 апреля. Напомним, что президент США в своем традиционном выступлении использовал выражение "мец егерн", что в переводе с армянского означает массовая резня.

Свое возмущение выступлением Барака Обамы уже высказали президент и премьер-министр Турции. Эрдоган заявил, что Турция - не та страна, с которой можно играть и обманывать.

1)Alexey,Геноцид-это трагедия,но амеры с подачи турков,трагедию интерпретируют что она произошла во время войны,т.е. не была планомерной и спланированой акцией уничтожения армянской (читай христианской) части населения Турции. А мы добиваемся офиц признания последней,на что турки отпираются!

2) Обама на армянской обозначил что это было Геноцидом! След шаг должен быть юридический т.е. резолюция 252! Там по армянски не скашешь

На армянском языке геноцид обозначается «tseghaspanutsyun». Термин «Мец Ехерн», в первую очередь, обозначает разграничение событий 1915-23 гг от предыдущих ехернов. Сам по себе термин «Мец Ехерн» не обозначает планомерность и предумышленность массового убийства. Эту смысловую нагрузку в армянском языке несет термин «tseghaspanutsyun».

Не надо выдавать собственные желания за действительность. В диаспоре обозначение армянского геноцида символизирует Мец Егерт и никак иначе. А то, что есть слова синонимы, то сути это не меняет
