FONDAZIONE IRI SUMMER SCHOOL 2005

IN MANAGEMENT STUDIES

A Neo Carnegie Approach to Organization and Strategy Research

Volterra, Centro Studi Santa Maria Maddalena

June 19 - 24, 2005

The Fondazione IRI (http://www.fondazioneiri.it) is pleased

to announce the organization of its second Summer School in

Management Studies for doctoral students and young

researchers in business and managerial studies.

ABOUT THE SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM:

The Fondazione intends to make its Summer Schools a regular

annual appointment to promote high-standing international

research on management studies involving scholars in

Business Schools and related Departments, researchers,

managers, business analysts, post-docs and PhD students.

The Summer Schools are part of a broader program of the

Fondazione, which includes research scholarships (for PhD

students and young researchers) and PhD fellowships (for

young Italian students admitted to PhD programs) to be used

in major international Business Schools and similar

Departments.

Every year, the Summer School will be centered on a

specific theme. The title of the 2004 Summer School was:

Chandlerian Corporations vs. Network-based Firms:

Governance and Performance.

The title of this year's Summer School is: A Neo Carnegie

Approach to Organization and Strategy Research.

The 2005 Summer School will be centered on the "Carnegie

Approach", concerning Organization and Research.

Lectures and Seminars will focus on past, present and

future perspectives of this approach.

The venue of the 2005 Summer School is the Centro Studi

Santa Maria Maddalena in Volterra (Pisa), a beautiful

town, located in the heart of Tuscany, between Pisa and

Siena, and rich of Etruscan archaeological treasures.

The summer school will begin on Sunday, 19 June with a

welcome dinner and will finish on the afternoon of Friday,

24 June.

LECTURERS:

This year's lecturers include:

- Prof. Giovanni Gavetti (Harvard Business School)

Scientific Coordinator

- Prof. Michael Cohen (University of Michigan)

- Prof. Henrich Greve (Norwegian School of Management, BI)

- Prof. Daniel Levinthal (The Wharton School)

- Prof. William Ocasio (Northwestern University)

- Prof. Massimo Warglien (University of Venice)

In addition, there will be the participation of some

professors, with relevant experience on the field, acting

as discussant and coordinated by Prof. Alessandro Narduzzo

(Free University of jenschina_legkogo_povedeniaen/Bolzano).

FURTHER DETAILS:

The program will also features some students' presentations

of draft papers or even preliminary research statements,

which will be discussed by one or two of the guest

lecturers.

On Friday, 24 June, the School will end with a roundtable

panel hosting business managers and practitioners who will

analyse the key-issues discussed during the week on the

School's topic and will confront them with on the field

experiences.

The official language of the School is English.

PARTICIPANTS:

The School will admit 20-25 participants: a) currently or

previously holders of a Fondazione IRI Research Scholarship

Fondazione IRI B) students, who, having the following

profile have sent their application forms and has been

selected, in accordance with the quality of their curricula

and applications, following the undisputable assessment of

a Commission specifically appointed for this purpose.

Participation to this year summer-school is open to:

young researchers, business analysts, post-doc students,

doctoral students in Business Administration and related

disciplines.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Applications should include:

- A simple statement declaring the applicant's intention to

submit his/her application for participating in the

School. This should be in the body of the email or in the

cover letter in case of paper-format application. This

latter should also clearly indicate the address (email or

else) where the applicant would like to receive the

response from the Selection Panel.

- The eventual field of research with a related summary.

- A CV of the applicant stating, among other things, where

he/she is taking his/her PhD, and the year in which

he/she is currently enrolled. For post-docs or non-PhDs

more generally state specifically what the applicant's

current status is and the institution in which he/she is

affiliated. The CV should also indicate nationality, date

and place of birth of the applicant.

- A statement (no more than 1 page) clearly indicating:

- the research interests and the current research

activities of the applicant (if any)

- the applicant's specific interest in this Summer

School.

- If Applicants are interested in submitting a paper, a

note, or even a simple statement of research purposes for

presentation in one of the students' seminars, they are

kindly requested to submit a one-page abstract of the

paper.

- If full papers or drafts are available, Applicants may

preferably submit them.

FURTHER INFORMATION:

There is no participation fee and the Fondazione IRI will

provide full-board accommodation for selected candidates.

Closing date for receipt of completed applications and also

for those in electronic format is: 28 May 2005 (as proved

by post-mark)

The results of the candidates' selection will be

communicated by 1 June 2005.
