"EU AND ME" PHOTO EXHIBITION OPENS IN YEREVAN TODAY

Yerevan. January 31./ARKA/. "EU and Me" photo exhibition opened in Yerevan today. The UK Ambassador to Armenia Tony Cantor reported at the ceremony that the purpose of the exhibition is to reflect people's opinions on how they will benefit from Armenia's joining the EU. "The photos show people from all Armenian regions in their daily life: at home, in an office, at church," he said.

Cantor also pointed out that the exhibition was organized as part of the British Council program called "EU and Me" aiming to create an atmosphere of mutual understanding between the youth of 10 South-Eastern countries and the UK. According to him, the program involves Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bulgarian, Cyprusian, Greek, Macedonian, Romanian, Serbian, Montenegroan, Turkish and British youth.

The exhibition, organized by the British Council in Armenia and the Euro Commission Delegation in the RA, will be held in Yerevan for 7 days, and then - in the country's various regions. R.O. -0--

AN EXHIBITION DEVOTED TO THE CULTURE OF ARMENIANS OF JAVAKHK (GEORGIA) TAKES PLACE IN THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF ARMENIA

YEREVAN, January 31. /ARKA/. An exhibition devoted to the culture of

Armenians of Javakhk (Georgia), took place in the National library of

Armenia. According to the Director of "Vahan Teryan" cultural center

Arushan Hakobyan, the goal of the exhibition is to demonstrate the

culture of the Armenians of Javakhk. "Notwithstanding the difficulties,

Armenians of Javakhq could create a great culture both for Armenians

and Georgians", he emphasized.

In his turn the Chairman of the Union of Writers of Armenia Levon

Ananyan expressed his regret for the fact that recently "warmness in

the Armenian-Georgian relations has weakened".

"The relations between Armenia and Georgia have always been warm,

however, recently they have lost their power because of the

social-economic problems", Ananyan said.

He noted that the Armenians of Javakhk could become a bridge of

friendship between Armenians and Georgians.

Over 300 books, written by Javakhk Armenians, were exhibited.

Among them are manuscripts of famous Armenian writers Vahan Teryan

and Derenik Demirchyan.

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 8, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. The exhibition

of more than dozens of works presented by 21 photographers in the

"Painting" nomination of "Vahan Tekeyan" competition of Armenian

Tekeyan Cultural Union opened on February 8 at the Armenian Tekeyan

Center.

Not only professional photographers but also students of different

higher schools take part in the competition.

"Art photography is one of the important directions of

painting. Therefore, the jury must strictly judge the works presented

and make a right choice," Armenian Tekeyan Cultural Union Chairman

Ruben Mirzakhanian said.

Paintings presented in the same nomination will be also displayed on

February 14 at the Tekeyan Center.

The authors of the best work will be given 1000 USD.

To recap, the "Vahan Tekeyan" annual competition's results will be

summed up on February 17. Prizes will be given for the best works

created in 2004.
