Sahak Ayradian, Archbishop of the Armenians of Persia and India, in the Armenian Church, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Archbishop Sahak Ayvatian (also spelled Sahag Ayvadian) was born in Constantinople in 1854. He was a student of the famed Mkrtitch (Mgrditch) "Hayrig" Khrimian, and was ordained a priest in 1882 in the famous Monastery of Varak. He was consecrated as a Bishop in Holy Echmiadzin in 1898, and shortly thereafter, he was elected as the Archbishop of New Julfa-Isfahan and India. In 1906-1907, he traveled extensively throughout India and Southeast Asia, and it is highly probable that this photograph was taken in Dacca (Dhaka) during his visit there in 1907. The name of the Armenian Church is Holy Resurrection, and it was built in 1781. Archbishop Sahak passed away in 1923 while visiting Jerusalem.
