  1. Фото в армянской церкви Sahak Ayradian, Archbishop of the Armenians of Persia and India, in the Armenian Church, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Archbishop Sahak Ayvatian (also spelled Sahag Ayvadian) was born in Constantinople in 1854. He was a student of the famed Mkrtitch (Mgrditch) "Hayrig" Khrimian, and was ordained a priest in 1882 in the famous Monastery of Varak. He was consecrated as a Bishop in Holy Echmiadzin in 1898, and shortly thereafter, he was elected as the Archbishop of New Julfa-Isfahan and India. In 1906-1907, he traveled extensively throughout India and Southeast Asia, and it is highly probable that this photograph was taken in Dacca (Dhaka) during his visit there in 1907. The name of the Armenian Church is Holy Resurrection, and it was built in 1781. Archbishop Sahak passed away in 1923 while visiting Jerusalem.
  2. One of the older tombstones in the Armenian Church, Dhaka. The oldest grave dated back to 1762, which predates the church. Back then a small chapel existed here. Ays e tapan Kirakos Ter Stephanosi hokedoustr Sarayin wor hangeav 'i Ter yami 1810 shpath 14 Daqay "This is the tombstone of Sara, the adopted daughter of Kirakos Ter Stephanos, who has taken rest in the Lord, in the year 1810, on Saturday [the month is not indicated] the 14th, in Dakka."
  3. There is an interesting story behind this monument. The deceased, H.S. Tavshanjian, was an Armenian rug importer who was murdered in Union Square, NYC ,by a member of the Hunchakist, an Armenian society who was trying to extort money from wealthy Armenians in this country to send back home. Tavshanjian and his family were threatened to pay $5,000 or else. Tavshanjian was quoted as saying that he would prefer to be killed than to give money to a cause that would end up in murder of more of his countryman. At the time of his assaination, he was accompanied by a Miss Trixie Jennery, a dancer who was withing two feet of the victim when the shots were fired. He had two little girls, ages 5 and 3, that he left behind.
